MnEEP Statement on Today’s Shooting: Schools Should be Safe Spaces for Everyone
Minnesota Education Equity Partnership extends its deep condolences to the students, families, and community members at Annunciation Church and School in Minneapolis who suffered a mass shooting that took the lives of two children and wounded many others today.
This heart-rending act of violence traumatizes whole communities and has no sense or purpose in society, much less in a school. We are reminded that the core duty of a school or college—public or private—is to be places of safety and support for students, their teachers, and staff.
Care for human life compels this as does the knowledge that learning cannot happen when students are not, and do not feel, safe. It is our collective responsibility to ensure they are free from all harm.
MnEEP’s thoughts and hearts are with those who suffered loss today. We give our voices and actions for safe schools everywhere.
